The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Honourable Faustilove Appiah-Kannin, has called on Muslim youth in the Municipality to remain vigilant and prioritize their safety during the Eid festivities.
She made the call while extending Eid Mubarak greetings to Islamic communities across Obuasi, as Muslims marked the end of the holy month of Ramadan. According to the MCE, the excitement that comes with celebrating Eid should not lead to complacency or compromise personal security.
She advised the youth to remain cautious in their interactions and surroundings, stressing that the festive period should rather strengthen their faith and draw them closer to Allah, who is gracious and merciful. She further noted that Eid is not only a time for celebration but also a period for reflection on the blessings and goodness of Allah.
“The world is becoming increasingly unsafe, so you must be careful. Do not leave your food or drinks unattended in the care of others, even among friends. Take them along if necessary to avoid any unfortunate situations,” she cautioned.
Call for Prayers and National Support
During her engagements, Hon. Faustilove also highlighted efforts made by the government over the past year to stabilize the economy. She used the opportunity to convey the President’s greetings to the Muslim community and appealed for continuous prayers for the President and his administration, asking for Allah’s guidance and blessings for national development.
She further expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Islamic communities for their continuous support and valuable counsel to her administration.
Appeal for Expansion of Hajj Opportunities
At one of the prayer grounds, an Islamic cleric appealed to the President and government to consider expanding access to Hajj pilgrimage opportunities and making them more affordable. According to the cleric, increasing the number of Hajj slots would enable more members of the Muslim community to undertake the pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.
Visits to Eid Prayer Centres
As part of her Eid engagements, the MCE and her entourage visited four major centres where Eid prayers were held to mark the celebration. These included Shangala Park, OSC Cricket Park, Black Park, and the AGA School Park.
At each of the centres, the team made donations and called for prayers for the government, the Municipality, and the nation as a whole. Leaders of the various Islamic communities expressed their appreciation to the President and the MCE for the gesture and pledged their continued support for the development of Obuasi.
Support Towards Ramadan Observance
Earlier in the week, the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, led by the MCE, presented items to the Islamic communities to support them during the Ramadan period. The donation included assorted food items such as rice and other provisions to assist in the breaking of the fast. The MCE was accompanied by the Municipal Coordinating Director madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh and the Municipal Finance Officer Mr Zakaria Yahaya.
Receiving the items, leaders of the Muslim community expressed their gratitude to the Assembly and the MCE for the timely support. They also offered prayers for the Assembly, the government, and the people of Ghana.
The engagements formed part of the Assembly’s commitment to promoting religious harmony, community support, and inclusive governance within the Obuasi Municipality.
