The Works Department of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly has organised an educational field trip for Internship (attachment) students within the department as part of efforts to expose them to practical construction and engineering experiences.
The exercise, led by the Head of the Department, Engineer David Adjei, took the students to three ongoing construction sites within and beyond the Municipality. The sites visited included a 12-unit two-storey classroom block at the AngloGold Ashanti Basic School, the Obuasi Complex Junior High School project, and the Fomena T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School project.
Speaking to the Information Services Department (ISD) during the tour, Engineer Adjei explained that the initiative was intended to bridge the gap between classroom theory and practical field experience.
According to him, exposing students to real-life construction environments gives them a better understanding of engineering principles and site operations.
“The purpose of this visit is to expose the students to actual site conditions and practical construction processes. These experiences help them appreciate what they learn in the classroom and prepare them for the realities of the profession,” he stated.

Engineer Adjei noted that educational site tours remain an important part of the department’s training approach for attachment students, as they help equip the students with technical and professional skills needed in the industry.
During the tour, the students were taken through various stages of construction works, including site layout, structural components, safety protocols, and building processes.
Some of the students who spoke after the exercise expressed satisfaction with the opportunity, describing the visit as insightful and practical.

They indicated that the tour had enhanced their understanding of building structures, site safety measures, substructures and superstructures, as well as other technical aspects of construction works.
The students also expressed gratitude to the Works Department for the initiative and pledged to apply the knowledge and practical lessons acquired during the visit.
Engineer Adjei was supported by other staff members of the Works Department throughout the exercise.
