The New Nsuta Electoral Area in the Obuasi Municipality is preparing to elect new School Management Committees (SMCs) for five public basic schools within the community as part of efforts to strengthen school governance and promote stakeholder participation in education.
The elections, scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026, will see each participating school elect a nine-member School Management Committee to oversee the effective management and development of their respective schools.
The schools participating in the exercise are Anglican Basic School ‘A’,& ‘B’, Presbyterian Basic School ‘A’, & ‘B’, and Salvation Army Basic School.
Addressing stakeholders at a preparatory meeting, the Assembly Member for the New Nsuta Electoral Area, Hon. Mohammed Issahaku announced that all five schools would participate in the elections. He encouraged parents, teachers, community members, and other stakeholders to turn out in their numbers to exercise their civic responsibility and contribute to strengthening educational governance within the community.

Hon. Issahaku explained that each School Management Committee would comprise nine representatives drawn from key stakeholder groups to ensure broad-based community representation. The membership will include representatives from the Traditional Authority, the Assembly, the Unit Committee, the Ghana Education Service, the sponsoring church, old students, parents, teachers, and the headteacher of the respective school.
Speaking at the meeting, the Circuit Supervisor for the Obuasi Education Circuit, Mr. Kwabena Obeng, urged stakeholders to conduct the elections in a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful manner. He stressed the importance of electing committed and competent individuals capable of supporting school authorities in improving educational standards and enhancing the overall development of the schools.
Mr. Obeng also encouraged all eligible voters to actively participate in the exercise scheduled for Tuesday, July 7, 2026, describing the elections as an important step towards strengthening community ownership and accountability in the management of basic education.
The meeting concluded with the selection of three electoral officers, who will supervise the School Management Committee elections, ensure the integrity of the electoral process, oversee the counting of ballots, and officially declare the election results.
