Obuasi Municipal Coordinating Director retires from public service

It was all mixed feelings on Friday, 31st May, 2024 when members and staff of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly bid farewell to Mr. Stephen Tecku, the Coordinating Director of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.

Mr. Tecku who bowed out after 23 years in active public service was showed love and appreciation by Staff of the Assembly and the people of Obuasi for his hard work and exemplary leadership.

He was showered with gifts, citations, praises, blessings and words of exaltations.

The Member of Parliament of Obuasi West Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng who was present at the Farewell ceremony eulogized the outgoing MCD for his industry and commitment to duty.

Prior to his appointment as the Coordinating Director for Obuasi Municipal, Mr. Stephen Tecku had served as the Works Engineer for Obuasi for 7 years, a position he distinguished himself so well according to Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng.

He said ” you have written your name in the history books of the Assembly as an accomplished civil servant whose works and achievements should be emulated by all”

On his part the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi Hon. Elijah Adansi-Bonah commended Mr. Stephen Tecku for his contributions towards the development of the Municipality.

He said having worked with the outgoing MCD since 2017, he has made it easier for him to implement a lot of the policies and programs of the Assembly.

” We have achieved a lot together since i came to office when Mr. Tecku was the Works Engineer. Throughout the period, he has been a big brother, a partner in delivering quality services to the people. He will be missed by the entire Staff of the Assembly, but we wish him well and a happy retirement”.

There were testimonies from the Presiding Member James Adaboh, Nananom, Staff of the Assembly and the resident pastor of the Global Evangelical church.

In an emotional speech in the company of his wife Regina Tecku, Mr. Tecku thanked the MCE, MP, Nananom, Assembly members and the media for their support throughout his time with the Civil service and especially in Obuasi.

He also thanked his family and church for their unflinching support throughout the period. He attributes his successes to humility and commitment to succeed.

He said as Civil servants we have to be professional in order to be relevant and enjoy your work without any hitches”.

” Once you have elected yourself to be a civil servant, you must recognize the ethics of the job and abide by them. One key thing is to be neutral and apolitical. Once you abide by these, you will be able to work as a civil servant without any hiccups”, the retiring MCD for Obuasi said.

Born on Tuesday, 7th May 1964 at Dzodze in the Volta Region, Mr. Tecku joined the Civil service in 2001 when he was posted to Tamale in the Northern Region as Assistant Engineer.

By dint of hard work, he was posted to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly as a Development Engineer in 2013. He was then posted to Obuasi to head the Works department in 2015 before being elevated to the position of Acting Municipal Coordinating Director for Asante Akim South Municipal Assembly in 2022.

His love affair with the Obuasi Municipal was reignited when he came back to Obuasi in 2023 to serve as the substantive Coordinating Director till his retirement.
