In a decisive and widely endorsed outcome, the Assembly Member for the New Nsuta “Auntie Bee” Electoral Area, Honourable David Mensah Odoom, has been elected Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA).
Honourable Odoom secured an overwhelming 24 votes out of the 27 valid votes cast in a smooth and transparent election process. He contested the position alongside the Assembly Member for the Anyinam Electoral Area, Honourable Solomon Amoako Acheampong. With no spoilt or rejected ballots recorded, Honourable Acheampong garnered the remaining three votes.

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly is composed of 19 elected Assembly Members, nine Government Appointees, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and the Member of Parliament, who does not have voting rights in the election of the Presiding Member. In total, the Assembly has 30 members; however, two members were absent and did not participate in the election.
Acceptance Speech
In his acceptance speech, Honourable Odoom expressed profound gratitude to his colleague Assembly Members for the confidence reposed in him. He acknowledged the support and guidance of the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin; the Municipal Coordinating Director; the outgoing Presiding Member; and the electorate of New Nsuta “Auntie Bee” for their unwavering encouragement throughout his journey.
He called for unity among members, urging them to work collectively to advance the development agenda of the Municipality. “I have come to serve and not to be served,” he emphasized, reiterating his commitment to selfless leadership and inclusive governance.
As part of his immediate priorities, Honourable Odoom indicated plans to renovate the Assembly Hall to create a more conducive environment for deliberations. He also proposed the display of portraits of past Presiding Members on the walls of the Assembly Hall to honour their service and preserve the institutional memory of the Assembly.
Remarks by the MCE
Addressing the Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, congratulated the newly elected Presiding Member and encouraged all Assembly Members to continue contributing their quota toward the development of the Municipality. She underscored that development is a shared responsibility, noting that while the Assembly Members have their roles to play, she and the management team of the Assembly equally remain committed to delivering on their mandate.

She further called for collaboration, unity, and dedication in addressing the pressing needs of the Municipality.
Conduct of the Election and Swearing-In
The election was conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission, led by the Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Osei Tutu, who also served as the Returning Officer. At the close of polls, Mr. Osei Tutu officially declared Honourable David Mensah Odoom duly elected as Presiding Member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.

Following his declaration, Honourable Odoom was sworn into office by His Worship Kofi Wusu Sekyere, marking the formal commencement of his tenure as Presiding Member.
His election signals a renewed commitment to unity, progress, and effective local governance within the Obuasi Municipality.
