Obuasi Municipal Assembly to fully operationalize its Zonal Councils

The Municipal Coordinating Director of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Madam Joyce Akosuah Angmorteh, has announced that beginning this quarter, the Assembly will fully operationalize all its Zonal Councils to bring governance closer to the people.

According to her, the initiative is aimed at enhancing local-level administration and improving access to public services within communities. As part of the operationalization, staff from key Departments and Units—including the Central Administration, Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Physical Planning Unit, and the Works Department—will be posted to the Zonal Councils.

Madam Angmorteh made this known during a staff durbar organized in her honour to officially welcome her to the Assembly. Appealing to Departmental and Unit Heads, she urged them to begin preparations to deploy staff to the two existing Zonal Councils in the Municipality.

The durbar, which was well attended, provided a platform for discussions on issues of mutual concern, particularly staff welfare.

STAFF WELFARE AMONG MY TOPMOST PRIORITIES – COORDINATING DIRECTOR

Madam Angmorteh assured staff of the Assembly that their welfare remains one of her highest priorities. She encouraged them to work collectively and contribute their expertise towards advancing the development agenda of the Obuasi Municipality.

“I am going to ensure that issues relating to your welfare are given the necessary attention they deserve,” she stressed. She further emphasized that “a well-resourced staff is a well-motivated staff.”

Introducing herself, Madam Angmorteh indicated that she joins the Obuasi Municipal Assembly from the Ahanta West Municipal Assembly in the Western Region, bringing with her nearly 20 years of experience in the Local Government Service. She recounted her rise from an Internal Auditor to her current position as a substantive Coordinating Director—becoming the first person from her rank to achieve such a feat.

Staff who took turns to welcome her pledged their commitment to work with her and support her administration. They also discussed expectations of management, to which assurances were given to create a conducive environment that enables staff to deliver effectively.

Madam Angmorteh also reminded staff to sign the attendance book upon arrival and departure from the Assembly premises. This, she explained, serves both administrative purposes and as a security measure to account for staff in case of emergencies.

The durbar brought together staff from both centralized and decentralized Departments, Units, and Agencies operating within the Obuasi Municipality.
