The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has called for a stronger alignment between society’s expectations of teachers and the level of recognition and reward they receive.

Delivering her message to teachers in the Municipality as part of the 2025 Annual Teachers’ Prize Day, the MCE highlighted the enormous sacrifices teachers make in shaping the character and future of learners.
She acknowledged the long hours teachers commit to lesson preparation, the emotional investment required to support struggling students, and the daily personal sacrifices they make to bring out the best in every child. Hon. Faustilove praised teachers for their resilience, passion, and unwavering dedication to nurturing responsible citizens for Obuasi and Ghana at large.

The MCE noted that despite numerous challenges, teachers continue to “perform miracles,” transforming students into critical thinkers and disciplined individuals. As part of efforts to close the recognition gap, she stated that the Obuasi Municipal Assembly has invested in the Annual Teachers’ Prize Day to continuously celebrate hardworking educators.
Her speech was delivered on her behalf by Mr. Henry Yeboah, Assistant Director at the Municipal Assembly. The Awards Day, established more than a decade ago, has rewarded over a hundred teachers, with 16 teachers and educational workers honoured this year.
In his remarks, the Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Alfred George Koomson, congratulated all award winners and expressed gratitude to the sponsors for making the ceremony a success. He added that teacher motivation is a shared responsibility and expressed hope that the award scheme will continue to contribute to improving teacher morale.
