MCE joins, AngloGold Ashanti and the Ghana Armed Forces to cut sod for the construction of a military forward operating base

 Honorable Elijah Adansi-Bonah on Monday, 26th February, 2024 joined Awie Frey the Acting Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti and Major- General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona the Chief of Army Staff to break grounds for the construction of a USD 6 Million Military Forward Operating Base at Anyankyirem near Obuasi.

The project when completed will enhance security in Obuasi and its surrounding areas.

Honorable Adansi-Bonah in an interview with the media reflected on Government’s support towards improving security in Obuasi which he said eluded AngloGold Ashanti resulting in illegal miners encroaching AngloGold Ashanti’s concession in 2015.

He said the establishment of the Forward Operating Base lends credence to the overwhelming support AGA enjoys from Government and all its agencies.

He was however confident that when completed the project will further boost security and reduce and permanently eradicate illegal mining from Obuasi and its neighboring communities.

He seized the opportunity to allay the fears of the people of people about a possible intimidation and harassment from the Military once the FOB is completed.

He said the Military are well trained and will bond well and coexist with the people of Obuasi.

Chiefs, Assembly members and members of the Ghana Armed Forces were present.
