The Obuasi Municipal Assembly on Wednesday 23rd August, 2023 held its maiden departmental budget hearing.
The program was in line with section 122(a) (b) of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) that stipulates that the aggregate revenue and expenditure of the office of the District Assembly, the Departments of the District Assembly and the budget for annual development plan and programs of the departments of the District Assembly.
Again, the budget hearing was in fulfilment of sections 41 & 42 of revised composite manual of 2021which mandates the Budget and Rating Department and Budget committee of MMDAs to facilitate stakeholders meetings, departmental hearings, Executive committee, regional budget hearings, etc.
The budget estimate from the departments will assist the Budget Unit to prepare the 2024 composite budget of the Assembly. The various heads of departments and units of OMA presented programs and activities they intend to undertake in the ensuing year.
The budget hearing presented opportunity for other heads of department to scrutinize the budget from colleague HODs.
The Municipal Chief Executive Honorable Elijah Adansi-Bonah before the start of the program called on the HODs to pay maximum attention to the program stressing that it paved way for management of the Assembly to put together the inputs from various departments.
This he said will make it easier for the Assembly to defend the Assembly’s budget with conviction during the regional budget hearing.
The Municipal Coordinating Director Stephen Tecku was also in attendance.
