In a significant ceremony marking a commitment to educational development, Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, joined various dignitaries on Wednesday 24th September 2025 to cut the sod for the construction of a new kindergarten (KG) block at the Obuasi Methodist Basic School.
Funded by the AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Obuasi Community Trust Fund, this project aims to replace the existing aging structure that has raised safety concerns for both teachers and students. The School Management Committee expressed profound gratitude for the initiative, describing it as a long-awaited dream come true. “Today is a moment of joy for us,” said Mr. Kwabena Bempong Marfo, the board chairman of the Trust Fund, during the ceremony. He announced that AA Engineering Limited will oversee the construction.
The new facilities will include two classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, a kitchen, a headteacher’s office with an attached washroom, a storage room, three additional washrooms, and a mechanized borehole. The total cost of the project is estimated at one million three hundred thirty thousand Ghana cedis (GH₵1,330,000.00).
Mr. Anthony Kwenin, the Municipal Coordinating Director, spoke on behalf of Honourable Faustilove Appiah Kannin, expressing appreciation for the support from the Trust Fund and AGA. He emphasized the Obuasi Municipal Assembly’s dedication to promoting development, security, and trade, and the importance of partnerships that further these goals.
The project is expected to be completed and handed over by the end of January next year. Among the attendees were the Methodist Bishop of Obuasi, Rt. Rev. Baffour Asamoah Agyei, his Secretary of Synod, Very Rev. Felix Tawiah Korankye Dankwa, Nana Takyei Mensah representing the Akrokerri Divisional Stool, alongside members of the Trust Fund, staff from AngloGold Ashanti, the Municipal Director of Education and staff from the Obuasi Methodist Basic School.
This initiative symbolizes a collaborative effort aimed at enhancing educational infrastructure and ensuring the safety and well-being of students in the Obuasi Municipality.
