The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has been commended for its innovation and prudent financial management at the 2026 Regional Budget Hearing held at New Edubiase in the Adansi South District on Monday, October 20, 2025.

The commendation followed the Assembly’s response to a question regarding its involvement in the infrastructural development of the Obuasi Campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). In its response, the Assembly explained that the renovation of a library complex for the University was justified, as the establishment of the KNUST Obuasi Campus was an initiative of the Assembly itself.
The Assembly recounted that, during the turbulence in the operations of AngloGold Ashanti about a decade ago, Obuasi’s economy suffered significantly. As part of measures to diversify the local economy and prevent a recurrence, the Assembly conceived the idea of establishing the university campus about six years ago.
Assessors and participants at the hearing were full of praise after hearing how the initiative had transformed the local economy. The KNUST Obuasi Campus has attracted a student population of over 3,000, creating new opportunities in commerce, accommodation, and other service sectors. “This is great, and I think other Assemblies should learn from this,” remarked one of the assessors.

The Assembly presented and successfully defended an estimated Internally Generated Funds (IGF) budget of GH¢23,071,924.67 for the 2026 fiscal year, which will guide the financial administration and development agenda of the Municipality.
Leading the Obuasi team was the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, supported by the Municipal Finance Officer, Mr. Yahaya Zakaria, and the Budget Officer, Madam Edna Vivian Arkoh. In her presentation, the MCE outlined key projects to be undertaken under the 2026 budget. These include giving a facelift to the Awurade Basa Basic School with additional washroom and mechanized borehole facilities, drilling and mechanization of boreholes in seven communities, construction of a 10-seater toilet facility at Antobuasi, renovation of the Gausu Market, and expansion of street lighting services across the Municipality.
FAUSTILOVE COMMENDED FOR COMMITMENT TO DUTY
During the session, the Chief of Nkampromu, Okofo Nana Appiah Kubi, commended the MCE, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, for her resilience and commitment to duty. He attributed major developmental gains, including the redevelopment of the ETS Road by AngloGold Ashanti, to her leadership and dedication.
Other members of the Obuasi delegation also praised the MCE for her humility and strong human relations, urging her to maintain her excellent work ethic.
The Obuasi delegation at the hearing included the Presiding Member honourable James Adabour, Convenors of the Sub-Committees, the newly appointed Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua, heads of departments, traditional and religious leaders, market representatives, and staff of the Assembly. The Regional Budget hearing had other 3 Districts namely Adansi North; Adansi Asokwa and Adansi South making their presentation.
