The implementing team of the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), under the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA), has commended the Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) for the steady progress of projects being executed under the programme. The team undertook an inspection of the projects on Wednesday, 10th September 2025.

The projects which included Bituminous Surface Dressing of 1km Nana Ponko Road at Kunka, Construction of 1 NO.3-Storey, 51 NO. Lockable Stores, Construction of 2-Storey 800-Seater Auditorium for Obuasi Recreational Centre with Fence wall, Ticketing Booth and Landscaping at Bidieso, Construction of Proposed 5.0M x 2.5m x 300M Long Storm Drain at Mensahkrom, Rehabilitation of 800 M Artisan Site Road at New Baakoyeden are all ongoing and at advanced stages of completion.
The team, led by Mr. Benjamin Ankrah, Senior Procurement Specialist at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service visited five project sites in the Municipality to assess progress in the company of selected members of the Project Management Team of the assembly led by the Municipal Planning Officer, Lawyer Prince Owusu Agyemang. Other members of the inspection team from the Assembly included Ing. David Agyei and Ms Agnes Amoah who are the heads of works and Physical Planning Department, respectively.

Speaking during the exercise, Lawyer Agyemang explained that the Obuasi Urban Park, when completed, would serve as a modern recreational centre with an 800-seater auditorium, offices, and a ticketing booth. He added that the Assembly is exploring avenues to secure funding for additional facilities, including a swimming pool and a restaurant, to transform the park into a one-stop destination for leisure and hospitality, benefiting the people of Obuasi and its environs.
