Commissioning of tree planting exercise – “Grey to Green”

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has commissioned Tree Planting Exercise dubbed “Grey to Green”.

The initiative, funded under the Capacity Support Grant component of the Ghana Secondary City Support Programme, aims to plant and maintain over 5,000 varied species of economic and fast-growing trees. The project seeks to restore portions of lost vegetation, improve air quality, and contribute to environmental sustainability.

The intervention aligns with Goal 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supports SMART City Goals of the Obuasi Municipality.

Focal Person of the project, Mr. Prince Owusu Agyemang who double as the Municipal Planning Officer urged all those present at the launch of the project to take the initiative serious and adopt habit of planting more trees especially those from the affected areas of land destruction.

The Municipal Co-ordinating Director, Mr. Anthony Kwenin who represented the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin planted a Tree to commission the project.

Among those who were present at the commissioning of the project are some community members and opinion leaders from the heavily affected localities with the Municipality by environmental degradations, Assembly members, Staff of Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Teachers representative from various schools with the Municipality.
