GENERAL PROFILE OF AGRIC DEPARTMENT
Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s mission is to promote sustainable agriculture and thriving agribusiness through research and Technology development, effective extension and other support services to farmers ,fishermen, processors and traders for improved human livelihood.
OBJECTIVES
To accomplish its mission, MoFA pursues the following objectives:
- Ensure food security.
- Improved growth in incomes and reduced income variability.
- Increased competitiveness and enhanced integration into domestic and international markets.
- Sustainable management of land and the environment.
- Science and technology applied in food and agricultural development.
- Enhanced institutional coordination.
The first two objectives support programmes for commodity productivity growth and development. The next three support the commodity interventions and the final programme on institutional coordination supports the framework for all interventions.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE MUNICIPAL AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT UNIT
The objectives are to:
Advise on policies, programmes and projects for agricultural development;
Facilitate monitoring and evaluation of district programmes and projects within the framework of national policy;
Coordinate the activities of the district agricultural development unit;
Facilitate the preparation of agricultural development plans, programmes and budgets;
Ensure preparation of consolidated annual district agricultural work programmes;
Facilitate the preparation and submission of reports on all agricultural projects and programmes;
Provide technical advice to the District Assemblies;
Facilitate efficient utilization of resources for agricultural programmes and projects;
Provide agricultural services to clients.
