The Municipal Coordinating Director of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, has underscored the need for society to support pensioners, describing such support as a moral responsibility.
Speaking at the quarterly meeting of the Government Pensioners Association, Obuasi Branch, held at the Assembly Hall, Madam Angmorteh emphasized that pensioners are individuals who have dedicated their lives to national development and therefore deserve recognition, care, and respect.
“Pensioners are gallant men and women who have served this country well. They deserve to be celebrated and given a pat on the shoulder for a job well done—not the other way round,” she stated.
She called for a well-structured welfare system to support the needs of retirees and pledged the Assembly’s commitment to assisting the Association in its activities. She further assured the pensioners that her office remains open to provide any support they may require.

Madam Angmorteh reminded workers that everyone is a future pensioner and that the kindness shown today will reflect on their own future.
“Being a pensioner is a blessing – this is because it is not everyone that retire from work as some fall along the line; it is also dignity and a symbol of service and honour,” she said.
She encouraged retirees to prioritize their health to enjoy a fulfilling retirement.
PENSIONERS RESPOND WITH APPRECIATION
Members of the Government Pensioners Association expressed gratitude to the Coordinating Director for honouring their invitation and engaging with them. They pledged their support for her administration and assured her that they would readily offer their expertise and guidance whenever called upon.
The Association also used the occasion to appeal to all retired government workers in Obuasi who have not yet joined the group to register and become active members.
