The Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, once again demonstrated exemplary leadership by actively participating in this month’s National Sanitation Day exercise organized by the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.

The October edition, held at Anyinam and Gausu, saw the MCE personally involved in various cleanup activities — from clearing refuse heaps to desilting major drains in both communities. She was joined by staff of the Assembly, Assembly Members, Environmental Health Officers, traditional leaders, and residents.

At Anyinam, participants worked along the main streets and at the community’s refuse site, clearing heaped waste and weeding the surroundings. The Municipal Environmental Health team, led by Madam Imoro Fuseina, coordinated the technical aspects of the exercise. The Assembly Member for Anyinam, Hon. Solomon Amoako Acheampong, and his Unit Committee mobilized residents and local leaders for the activity.

In an interview with the Information Services Department (ISD), Hon. Acheampong announced that similar clean-up exercises would now be organized every three weeks in the community to sustain cleanliness and improve sanitation standards.

At Gausu, the cleanup was led by the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. James Adabour, alongside the Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Tahiru, and other community members. The team desilted drains, cleared refuse, and swept major routes — with enthusiastic participation from residents.

Speaking to the media after the exercise, Hon. Faustilove commended the strong community turnout and emphasized the importance of maintaining good sanitation practices.

“Cleanliness, they say, is next to godliness. As the leader of this Municipality, sanitation is one of my topmost priorities — and I believe leadership must start by example,” she stated.

She further encouraged all residents to make sanitation a daily habit, adding that with collective effort, Obuasi can become one of the cleanest cities in Ghana.
