The Department of Agriculture in the Obuasi Municipality has held its annual Research Extension farmer Linkage Committee (RELC) session to convey constraints of farmers for research and solutions via agricultural extension service delivery.
The meeting was held on Friday, 21st July 2023 at the Assembly’s Conference room in Obuasi.
According to the Municipal Agric Director Yaw Owusu Donkor Junior, the annual planning session provides opportunity for the department to meet stakeholders in the Agricultural value chain, to know their challenges and devise appropriate measures to surmount those challenges.
Again, he intimated that through a ranking system the department will address the main challenges facing farmers in their operational area.
Mr. Stephen Tecku, the Municipal Coordinating Director, who represented the Municipal Chief Executive talked about the importance of the planning session.
He said it informs the Agric department with details for their action plan which the Assembly relies on for its annual budget.
He talked about the programs introduced by the government in the Agric sector which includes planting for food and jobs and planting for exports and rural development.
He challenged farmers to take advantage of such programs which are targeted at improving the foreign exchange earnings of the country and improving the living conditions of farmers.
