Obuasi Municipal Assembly inaugurates two Zonal Councils

The Municipal Assembly has inaugurated its two (2) Zonal Councils in Obuasi. This became apparent following the elections of new assembly members and unit committee members during the December 2023 District Level Elections.

The Zonal Councils included the Kunka- Anyinam zonal council and the Obuasi Central zonal council. The Assembly seized the opportunity to swear in 95 Unit committee members from the 19 electoral areas.

In a message read for him by the Municipal Coordinating Director Stephen Tecku, the MCE Hon. Elijah Adansi- Bonah lauded the past zonal council members for living up to expectation emphasizing that their role in improving sanitation and revenue of the Assembly during their term was remarkable.

He however admonished the newly constituted zonal council members to work together to ensure development reaches the doorsteps of the residents, adding that decentralization cannot be practiced without any form of development to show.

Honorable Adansi- Bonah again appealed to the zonal councils to eschew any form of partisanship which he said serves as impediment to development at the district level.

On his part, the Presiding member Hon. James Adaboh said the Zonal Councils must always perform their duties as stipulated in the Local Government Act and the Standing Orders for the various Metropolitan Municipal and District assemblies (MMDAs) to avoid creating challenges in the discharge of their duties.

He however congratulated the newly inaugurated zonal council members and assured them of the assembly’s support to ensure a seamless administration during their tenure in office.

Hon. Mohammed Issahaku was again elected as the chairman of the Obuasi Central Zonal Council whiles Hon. Solomon Amoako Acheampong was also elected as the chairman of the Kunka-Anyinam zonal council.
